After 2 years and seriously-discounted trips to the SF Bay Area, Lake Tahoe, Brazil, Hawaii & Texas, the coupon-clipping duo return to drop #3 in the mixtape series...they're most international & comical yet.
Millionaires Using Coupons Vol. 3 - The Big Lebowski comes out June 1st, 2013 on bandcamp and a highly limited # of collectible CDs.
Beats, rhymes, & laughs is the mantra, and Vol. 3's "Big Lebowski" theme not only makes for at-times-hilarious & engaging listening, it adds a cinematic quality where the MC/DJ duo push the creative boundaries of hip-hop. They draw upon the decidedly non-hip-hop music used in the Coen Brothers' cult-classic film, celebrating it's 15th anniversary, as well as the brilliant dialogue, and find a way to smoothly weave it into the mix as a sort of re-telling of the movie plot. Of course, there's no shortage of references to the infamous "million dollars" The Dude and Walter are after, bringing the theme full circle to the duo's moniker.
Incorporating a wide variety of music is nothing new to MUC, and the contributions from their extended crew & affiliates, as well as the self-produced tracks on Vol. 3, echo Soul, Jazz, Indie Rock, Electronic, Brazilian, and African folk music, among others. It's the same process that created hip-hop in the first place...mixing and mashing all different kinds of music and toasting it up with dope MCs. In the case of MUC Vol. 3, the MC may be rapping in Portuguese, or crossing over from English to Japanese or Spanish and back all in the same verse..."international raps, fly points across the map." Though English is the dominant language on the album, it's really all about the universal language: music.
